Playgrounds near Selinsgrove
Two playgrounds top the kids’ list, but there are several others as well. The playground at East Snyder Regional Park is top notch. In fact there are several playground areas, each with large slides and equipment. One is a handicap accessible playground. There are also ball fields, bacci ball and horseshoe courts, and a couple of large pavilions.
The other playground worth checking out is at Major Anthony Selin Park and is called Kidsgrove. It has a wooden playground that looks really fun. The park also has a dog park, several wellness stations, ball fields, horseshoes, picnicking, soccer, and volleyball.
Other playgrounds in the area include Moose Playground, Monroe Manor Park, Charles Attig Park, Jack Treas Park, Eleventh Avenue Park, Pump House Tot Lot, and Thomas C. Smith Memorial Park.
Sports Fields near Selinsgrove
Other ball fields around Selinsgrove are Rotary Field in Selinsgrove, and Thomas C. Smith, Jr. Memorial Park, Eleventh Avenue Park, and Monroe Township Recreation Park in Shamokin Dam. Basketball courts can be found at Charles Attig Park and Jack Treas Park in Shamokin Dam, as well as Selin Park and Moose Playground in Selinsgrove. Thomas C. Smith, Jr. Memorial Park also has tennis and pickleball.
Next to the Penns Creek Access is Little Norway II, where there is ice skating in winter when it gets cold enough. Swimming is available at Selinsgrove Community Pool in the summer.
Boating and Picnicking near Selinsgrove
There are several options for boat accesses. There is access to Penns Creek at Penns Creek Access or to the Susquehanna River at the Isle of Que in Selinsgrove, or you can access the Susquehanna at Shady Nook Boat Access in Hummels Wharf.
The best picnicking spots along the river are Shady Nook Boat Access, where there is a large pavilion and grills, or Shikellamy State Park, which is across the river in Northumberland County. Other spots include The Isle of Que Boat Access and Penns Creek Access, although they have limited seating (one picnic table each). All of the playgrounds also have picnic tables. If you want to chill out in town and eat outside, Selinsgrove Commons is the place to be.
Hunting and Zoos near Selinsgrove
There are two state game lands nearby for hunting: SGL 193 is to the north, just above Winfield in Union County. SGL 201 is just north of Penns Creek to the west of Selinsgrove, and SGL 212 is just south of Selinsgrove.
If you want to see animals, T&D Cats of the World is not too far a drive in Penns Creek.
