Zoos are considered parks because, although they are man-made, they showcase the natural environment. Therefore, they satisfy the “natural” requirement for what is considered a park on The ParksBase.
Zoos range in size from big city zoos to small petting farms, and everything in between. The ParksBase considers any park, nature center, or building that holds at least a few animals on display to the public (with or without a fee) to be a zoo. Aquariums also fit in the “zoo” category.
I’ll probably never get to every zoo in the country. If you would like to help me catalog one or more zoos, or other parks, please visit the Post a Park page.
