The ParksBase doesn’t limit national parks to just “national parks.” We consider all national level lands that have been set aside for public use that are of natural, recreational, historic, or cultural significance to be national parks. The agencies responsible for these parks include the National Park Service, the US Forest Service, the US Fish and Wildlife Service, the US Army Corps of Engineers, and the Bureau of Land Management.
These parks go by all sorts of names, including national parks, national forests, national wildlife refuges, national monuments, national seashores, national lakeshores, national historic sites, national recreation areas, national military parks, national battlefields, and many more.
While I would love to visit all the national parks personally, that is probably too ambitious a goal to actually accomplish. It won’t stop me from trying, but in the meantime, if you would like to help speed along the listing of national parks on The ParksBase, please visit the Post a Park page.
