Blue Ridge Parkway
It’s not as fast as the parallel Interstate 81, but the Blue Ridge Parkway is a lovely scenic drive for those who want to slow down a little. Connecting Virginia and North Carolina, it is the ideal way to travel between Shenandoah National Park and Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
The Parkway does close sometimes due to weather in the winter. There are no gas stations, but there are many access points where you can get to nearby gas stations.
